The Grabber grabs an object on contact and holds on to it. The grabbed object can also be released.

Usage[]

The grabber can attach to:

  • Creatures (Peasants, Animals, Knights)
  • Level Objects (For example the fort walls in Tolbrynd)
  • Other Blocks (including those with no attach points such as Flaming Balls or Bombs)
  • Static, non-interactive environment (when "Grab Static" is enabled)

These qualities make it useful for certain levels that require objects to be delivered to a certain point, which a Decoupler is incapable of.

The Grabber will grab anything in range when entering sim regardless of what auto-grab is set to.

When Auto-Grab is enabled, the Grabber grabs the object within its range automatically. When it is disabled, the player has to press its Detach key to grab the object within graber's range. There's a fixed delay of 1 second before the grabber can grab again after the object is detached. This delay affects Grabbers with Auto-Grab enabled and disabled. When Auto-Grab is enabled, the Grabber waits for a fixed time until it will grab an object within range again. When Auto-Grab is disabled, the grabber will ignore key input for 1 second after the object is detached.

When Only Grab Static is enabled, the grabber will only grab to the environment, including level objects that do not have physics option enabled.

When Flexible is enabled, it allows a grabber to bend instead of being totally fused to what it grabs.

When building invulnerable machines, Grabbers can be used extensively as structural blocks to replace flammable and breakable wooden blocks. They can be placed in series to form the body of a vehicle, utilizing their near-unbreakable grip, indestructibility and inflammability. This is useful for applications that will face lots of damage or hazardous environments, such as a blunt weapon for anti-personnel missions or a grabber arm to retrieve dangerous objects.

The Grabber has strong connections to the block it connects to and the object or environment it grabs. It can be used as an anchor to the environment, or an alternative to a single wooden block as a stronger structural part. It also serve as a much more secure option for Bomb handling and storage than Holders, in addition to being considerably lighter and smaller.

When a Grabber can potentially connect to multiple objects and blocks at once, it will pick one to grab onto completely at random.

Grabbers are used as a visual part of plane nosecones. It is even more popularized after the skinpack update, many skinpacks include a smooth hexagonal cone that is intended to be used as aircraft nosecones.


Technology[]

  • Grabber can be used as the torsion bar of a wheel toring system. Compare to other options such as Braces, Scaling blocks, Cogs, a Grabber torsion bar is easier to build due to the lack of connectable coliders.
  • NPC stabilizer. NPCs always stay upright. By grabbing an NPC with a Grabber, the NPC provides strong stabilization power to the machine.
  • Grabbers are used to secure Balloons in place in a Balloon Stabilizer. Without grabbers, the Balloons are prone to collision and cannot be as powerful due to their flexible and weak strings.
  • Flexible Grabbers forming a chain, sometimes alternating with sliders in between, can create a strong stretchy and flexible whip weapon.
  • Grabber and bomb can make rocket and missile warheads.


Trivia[]

  • The Grabber did not have a Flexible option before v1.25.
  • The Grabber is known to have some minor mass shift issues when holding an object.
  • When Flexible is enabled, the grabbed object can slide along the z-axis of the grabber for about ±0.1 and rotate around the x and y axis for about ±3°.
  • The adding point on the Grabber's grabbing face is there only to allow placing blocks onto the grabber and isn't supposed to allow connections. However, the Slider is the only block that can connect to it.
