The Smooth Surface Block (or Scaling Block) is a Hidden block - it is officially supported, and will load in the vanilla game, but it cannot be placed without mods such as Block Scaling Tools.

Usage[]
Its flat top and adjustable mass make it a highly desirable block for bodywork on machines which use Scaling. They're commonly used along with Bracecubes, which cover its weaknesses (i.e. triangular shapes and connections) and compliment them nicely.
Technology[]
- The first component of any high-power Recoil Suppression system is the mass damper - a high-mass block, which blunts most of the cannon's recoil.
- Suspension setups for even moderate speeds usually involve connecting the wheel to a low-mass block, which allows the wheel to flex instead of snapping off.
- Zero-Mass technology (e.g. FNS) by their nature need blocks with adjustable mass.
- Some forms of Toring can make use of low-mass blocks.

Trivia[]
- In versions v0.67 and before, it was named Scaling Block.
- Originally, the Hinge was similar in design to this block and was used for much the same purposes (i.e. with scaling, hence the original name). It received a redesign in v0.42, removing the flat top; this block was added to replace it in those uses.
